When Joanna and Cody shared their dreamy multi-day Vancouver elopement plans with me, I couldn’t resist saying yes! I booked my flights in a heartbeat and began imagining all the special moments I would capture over the four magical days. Having visited and explored Bella Coola several years prior, I had a clear vision. My candid wedding photography combined with my super 8mm and vintage home videos style videography would perfectly embody their one-of-a-kind elopement.
This almost secret area of lush forests and wild rivers is nestled within the Great Bear Rainforest along the coastal fjords of British Columbia. Just a quick hour-long flight from Vancouver or a picturesque road trip, a true treasure is waiting to be explored. The couple’s vision for their multi-day adventure was simple. They wanted to fully experience the landscapes and adventures it holds, thus beginning their journey as newlyweds.
The first day of our Vancouver elopement was down-to-earth, marked by a heartfelt meet and greet to get to know both J+C. The spring wildflower blooms were teeming within Firvale Wilderness Camp, our base for the next several days. I had them forage and create a bespoke wedding bouquet amongst the calm meadows. After a little rest, we embarked on our sunset hike overlooking the Atnarko River and the entire Bella Coola Valley.
Day two, my absolute favourite, was the official Vancouver elopement day. I was beyond excited to document the private helicopter journey to a secluded vow exchange. Surrounded by the coastal mountains of British Columbia, backed onto a glacier was the freshest water we’d ever drunk; the setting was simply dreamy. Watch J+C’s full wedding video to see the moment we were almost swept away as the Canadian Search and Rescue Teams were on drill runs!
On day three of our Vancouver elopement adventure, we took to the high waters with Captain Pete from Great Bear Adventures. We were treated to Captain Pete’s hilarious impersonations and stories. We indulged in a freshly made meal aboard, and embarked on a hike to a hidden hot spring grotto. The couple enjoyed some precious alone time in the soothing hot spring waters and finished the adventure with a cold plunge!
Finally, day four of the Vancouver elopement was with Thunder Mountain Adventures where we hiked on our Icelandic Horses to a stunning viewpoint! This was not your average horseback ride, we were climbing steep hills and cliffs to reach our summit overlook! Throughout the journey, the horses were so gentle, allowing us to capture stunning photos in the fields and against the sweeping mountain backdrops.
It was truly an absolute joy to fully immerse myself with my couple and capture their multi-day Vancouver Elopement. My approach; a mix of documentary and photojournalism truly allowed me to capture organic moments and videos whilst staying true to their personalities and wedding vision.
